Subject: *** WinSock 2 - Call for administrators ***
X-Mailer: SCO Portfolio 2.0
Date: Mon, 16 May 1994 16:11:28 -0700 (PDT)
Content-Length: 2872
Dear WinSock2'ers,
in order to make best progress in each of the WinSock 2 functionality
groups and review boards, it's important that we have a single
administrator for each group and review board.
The time that this will take up should not be underestimated.
If you have the inclination, the time and the ability to take on the
adminstrator role for one of the groups below, please email your
availability to me no later than Tuesday May 24, indicating clearly
which group or board you're interested in administering. In cases where
there is more than one person interested in a particular role I'll have
a collective discussion with all those individuals to
reach agreement on who does it.
Functionality Group Administrators
----------------------------------
Here are the groups for which we are seeking administrators
1 Generic API Extensions & Additions
2 Specification Clarifications
3 Name Resolution
4 Operating Framework
5 TCP/IP
6 IPX/SPX
7 Appletalk
8 Telephony
9 OSI
10 Wireless
The responsibilities of the administrator of each group are
to ensure:
* Progress according to the key milestones
* Regular communication with other functionality groups
* Discussions framed by general referential paramaters
* Design decisions meet the referential paramaters and the group's
requirements
* Arrangement of meetings on an as needs basis
* Regular communication with moderators
* Ultimate responsibility for producing actual specification sections
for the group
* Moderation of the group's mailing list: keep high signal-to-noise
ratio
Review Board Administrators
---------------------------
As outlined in the preliminary WinSock 2 framework documents,
there will be two review boards: The Application Review Board and
the Transport Review Board.
The responsibilities of the administrator of each group are to
ensure:
* Refinement of requirements initially proposed by
Functionality Groups
* Progress according to the key milestones
* Discussions framed by general referential paramaters
* Design decisions meet the referential paramaters and the WinSock 2
requirements
* Consistency of proposals from Functionality Groups
* Arrangement of meetings on an as needs basis
* Regular communication with moderators
regards
Martin
PS. Please note that the "Referential Parameters" referred to above
are simply some guidelines that should make it easier to
make technical decisions in the context of the WinSock 2 effort.
These will be included in the next revision of the "Operating
Framework" document, to be published any day now.
